Unit 5 Projects
Bust
This project took over a month of work, which is really disappointing because it put me very behind on all the other assignments that I had to do. I started with making the shoulders out of chunks of wedged clay, where I scored and slipped the chunks I was adding until they resembled the human collar bone structure with some muscles. Then I hollowed out the shoulders with a large loop tool. After hollowing out the shoulders, I started making the general shape of the head, and after the head was complete, I tried to mold in and add to the cheeks and chin for more definition and make it look more realistic. After adding more details, I then hollowed out the head and set it up to dry and then be fired. This piece took about 3 weeks to be fired, so I am disappointed that I never got the chance to finish it. I wish it had looked like Robin Williams, but I am happy with the collarbone structure; I think that turned out pretty well.

Pueblo inspired fake flower pot
This was a piece that I had already made a general shape of from using the throwing wheel, but after making another project on the throwing wheel, I decided to try to make another flower pot from molding clay. For this piece, I originally had a block of clay, and I just molded it to open up the center, while widening the top and keeping it open so it resembled a vase. After making the small vase, I painted the piece brown to match common pueblo terracotta coloring, and after it was bisque-fired, I painted a sunflower on it to hold little pipe-cleaner flowers I could make as gifts. I am happy with how this turned out because the design is cute, even though it is simple. I wish that I had the time to scale up the project, but unfortunately, I didn't.

Mugs wellness center - Incomplete
I never got to this project unfortunately, I would have loved to try and throw a mug for the wellness center.

Hobit inspired piece
I started this piece by wedging the clay and then making the smaller details that I would add to the outside of the house before actually creating the structure of the house. After making the small details and getting them ready to dry, I began making a small outline of a house that I intended to give a grassy roof to, but it broke before I took a picture of it. This was originally an attempt to make a hobbit-style home, but it broke after it was fired, because someone knocked it off the shelf inside, so I ended up having to put it in the giveaway bucket. I am happy with how it looked originally, but I am very frustrated that someone broke the roof.

Choice piece
I started by making a couple of surfboards by creating a small surfboard-shaped board, and then I added the fin to it. After it dried, I etched in little lines with the needle tool and got it ready to be bisque-fired. After it was bisque-fired, I glazed it in a design with purple, blue, teal, and tan, all colors I find somewhat tropical. After it was glazed, I think that it turned out well. I put a string through the little hole behind the fin and am hanging it in my car. I am happy with how it turned out, but I do think choosing a lighter blue would have looked better.

Mask - Incomplete
I didn't end up getting to this project, but seeing some people's masks, I am bummed that I never got to that.
