Unit 4 Projects

Series of 4

This is my series of 4 projects. First, I got clay from the bag and wedged it, then I used the slab roller to flatten the chunk of clay. After flattening out the clay, I used the blue hand wheel to spin things, and I cut out 4 circles of the same size and decided to make them into thirds with different designs. My mom really likes Hello Kitty, so for her birthday I decided to make the triangles pink, white, and yellow, where the yellow triangle has Hello Kitty in it. I am happy with the texture and size of the coasters, but I am somewhat disappointed with how the designs turned out.

Handles on a piece

This was definitely tricky to get hold of, but I started by making a slab with the slab roller after wedging the clay, and then I used a small cylinder mold and put the slab around the mold to create a short cup. After making the shape, I filled in the bottom of the cup with another slab of equal thickness, and I scored and slipped them together. Then I used a thin cut sting of the excess slab and scored and slipped it into a handle for the cup. I really liked how the cup turned out with the overall ability to be a cup, but I would have rather had the cup be a little bit larger.

Choice Piece

I started by wedging the clay from the reclaimable clay, then I used the slab roller to make a small slab. Then, I decided to make the Dark Side of the Moon album cover because the song "Us and Them" came on my headphones during ceramics. After making the square with the fetching tool, I rolled small tubes to turn them into the light waves from the album cover, where I then secured and slipped them all together into one piece. After making these piece, I bisque-fired them and glazed them with a black background and the colors of the rainbow to finish. I am happy with how it turned out with the design, but unfortunately, I didn't wedge it well enough, so it cracked in the corner.

Lidded Box

This assignment was excused for me because I joined the class late.
